When To Replace a Mattress
The answer to “how long does a mattress last?” is not as straightforward as it may seem. It first depends on the material. A natural latex mattress usually lasts around eight years, while a pocket-sprung mattress can last up to ten years. Your weight and how you maintain the mattress also influence its lifespan. That’s why it’s important to notice signs that your mattress may need replacing — for example sagging, back or neck pain, or restless sleep.
Mattress Maintenance Tips
Good maintenance can help you enjoy your mattress for longer. Here are our tips:
● Air your mattress every day. Don’t place your duvet fully over your mattress and make sure your bedroom is well ventilated. Choose bedding made from natural, breathable materials so your mattress benefits too.
● Turn your mattress regularly. You may wonder, “how often should you turn your mattress?” About four times a year. This ensures even wear and helps your mattress last longer. Did you know that Yumeko mattresses are designed so that they feel the same and offer the same support no matter how you turn them?
● Clean your mattress the right way. Cleaning a mattress requires care: for example, you shouldn’t vacuum our mattresses, as this can cause an uneven distribution of the wool layer. Want to wash the cover? This must be done at a dry cleaner. If you wash it in your machine, the wool in the cover will shrink and the mattress will no longer fit inside.
● Let a (waterproof) mattress protector — also called a molton — do its job. Yumeko’s moltons not only add comfort but also absorb moisture. And unlike your mattress, a molton can be washed regularly. In short: with a molton, you sleep cleaner!
