What Is TENCEL™ Fabric?
In the late 1990s, a new and highly sustainable material entered the market: TENCEL™. It is made from wood pulp, primarily from eucalyptus or birch trees, and offers many benefits—for both the environment and for you as the owner of a TENCEL™ duvet (cover). This breathable fabric feels as cool as linen, as warm and comfortable as wool, and as strong as cotton. It’s no surprise that we love using this material for our bedding and duvets. And of course, we’re happy to tell you more. Because what exactly is TENCEL™?
A Sustainable Material
Every Yumeko product is made with the greatest care for people, animals, and the environment. That’s why we love using TENCEL™ for our bedding and duvets. “Sustainability squared” is a fitting description.
TENCEL™ is produced in a closed-loop system, meaning water is reused again and again. This results in 71% less water consumption compared to conventional cotton production.
In addition, the CO₂ emissions of our TENCEL™-cotton blend are low—49% lower than those of regular cotton. This is partly because no pesticides or harmful chemicals are used during the cultivation of the wood or cotton. Finally, Yumeko’s TENCEL™ is made from wood pulp sourced from untreated trees.
